40 Years Selling and Using Bilsteins

 In Updates

Bilstein World’s Ed Mulligan has been using and selling Bilstein products since 1976 – a 40 year time span.

Starting Opposite Lock accessories in October, 1975, Ed first used Bilstein shocks on a pair of VW Kombi vehicles used by country sales reps to service auto outlets across the length and breadth of NSW. The VW Kombis had twin carby 2 litre engines and were both fast and comfortable for delivering accessories to country outlets.

Over the years, Ed has used Bilsteins in many rally cars he has owned, including BDA Escorts, Datsun 1600, L34 Torana, BMW 325i, Mazda RX7 and Toyota Sprinter.

The Opposite Lock fleet of 4WD vehicles in the 80s and 90s were regularly fitted with Bilsteins and uprated coil or leaf springs. These were used as company vehicles and for driver training programmes for staff and customers.

Some vehicles with coil springs responded to a perfect ride for occupants as the damping valving of both bump and rebound were nothing short of amazing. This proved the technology Bilsteins offered was far superior to other brands on the market.
